People are saying it's a shame that the Palin pick cut into the aftermath of Obama's speech. Yes it would have been nice to bask a little longer in that glow without having to be jerked back to the nastiest form of 20th Century politics: "Oh yeah, THAT'S how they do it."
But, the upside for me at least was that the pundits did not have time to maul Obama's speech. As Digby put it, "John McCain kicked the soccer ball and the media herd is chasing it."
Look at this way. 38,000,000 people watched Obama kick the ball right into the net. Do we really want the fence sitters - that group who are still trying to make up their minds - to watch five days of bloviating talking heads telling them that they really didn't see what they thought they saw?
And where did McCain kick the soccer ball? He passed it to a self-confessed "hockey mom" who is now trying to learn how to handle a ball instead of a puck under the most intense media scrutiny in the world. I can watch that for a while.
